Lake Tinaroo Retreat

Builder: McIntosh Builders
Completion: 2019            Budget: $320k
Location: Lake Tinaroo

Located on a large rural property backing onto Lake Tinaroo in the Atherton Tablelands, this unique retreat is the perfect getaway for a professional couple residing in Cairns.

This compact building has been craftily designed to provide all the luxuries in a small and efficient space, based on the clients brief, with medium to high-end finishes.

Two different external FC profiled cladding systems, painted in a balanced colour scheme, provide visual interest and distinguish private areas from living spaces. The natural oiled spotted gum external deck is covered by a slim line skillon roof, that is replicated over the remaining house to tie the building together.

Comprising of  two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a media media room (which can be closed off by large sliding doors into a third guest bedroom), central living and kitchen area; the house opens up to a large external deck overlooking bush land and Lake Tinaroo. Extensive full height sliding glass doors, generous louvres and high clerestory windows allows for maximum cross ventilation and light, as well connecting the inside with the outside.

Constructed from lightweight timber framework and appropriately positioned on site to prevent excessive earthworks. This has allowed for a cost effective build that also compliments energy efficient design and the environment.

Internal finishes include tiles throughout, to combat against the staining from the tablelands deep red earth; neutral painted plasterboard walls and modern joinery design. This contemporary internal colour scheme provides a ‘gallery space’ to allow the clients to showcase their artwork.
